About Me

31 Oct 2008

Originally from Belgium, I have now worked in Africa for the last 20 years, from Zimbabwe to DRC, Cameroon, Gabon and Kenya.

I had the privilege to head the World Wildlife Fund programme in Virunga from 1992 to 1994. Even though the security situation was beginning to deteriorate, the Park was still largely safe at that time and I thoroughly enjoyed criss-crossing the volcanoes and the Rwindi plains.

After 8 years in Gabon and Cameroon for WWF and Birdlife International, I took up my current position as Albertine Rift Ecoregion Programme Coordinator for WWF in Nairobi, Kenya. As you know, Virunga is at the heart of Albertine Rift (the western branch of the Great African Rift) and boasts many species that can only be found there in the world.

Virunga is also at the heart of my portfolio of projects and I do my best to support ICCN and the WWF team on the ground. I am also trying to secure funds to save this jewel and I really encourage all of you to contribute, one way or another!
